"Paste the wall" means exactly that - the adhesive goes on the wall, not on the back of the wallpaper itself. There's no need to paste the panel at all.
What you'll needGather everything before you start - it makes the process much smoother.
For perfectly vertical panel lines
To mark panel widths on the wall
Light marks - not pen or marker
Apply paste evenly to the wall
Non-woven adhesive (PVA dispersion type)
Push out air bubbles as you hang
Trim excess at ceiling and skirting
Press seams flat for an invisible join
The wall must be clean, dry, and smooth. Fill any cracks or holes with filler and sand down when dry. Remove old wallpaper completely - never hang over existing paper. Apply a primer or sizing coat and allow to dry fully.
On new plaster, always prime first - bare plaster absorbs paste too quickly and prevents proper adhesion.
Before you start, unroll all your panels and check them in order - if you spot a print flaw, contact us before hanging it. Let the panels acclimatise in the room for 24 hours first.
Use a spirit level to draw a perfectly vertical pencil line where your first panel will go - usually at one edge of the wall or next to a door frame. Don't rely on corners or architraves being straight; they rarely are.
Mix your wallpaper paste according to the packet instructions. Apply it generously and evenly to the wall section where the first panel will go - slightly wider than the panel width. Work in manageable sections.
A slightly thicker paste consistency works better for large murals - it gives you more time to adjust the panel.
Your panels arrive numbered - always start with panel 1. Hold the panel at the top and align the edge with your vertical pencil line. Press the top into place, then unfold and smooth downward using a wallpaper smoother. Work from the centre outward to push out any air bubbles.
For large mural panels, a second pair of hands stops the sheet folding onto itself while you position it.
Butt each panel tight against the previous one - do not overlap. Match the design at eye level first, then smooth upward and downward. The panels are numbered in order so the design aligns automatically when hung in sequence.
Use a damp sponge to immediately wipe any paste that gets on the front of the wallpaper - don't let it dry.
For Linen Durable Vinyl, Premium Cotton Textile and Premium Silk Textile: press the seams with your fingertips rather than a seam roller, which can crush the texture.
Once all panels are hung and you're happy with the alignment, trim excess paper at the ceiling, skirting board, and around any switches or sockets using a sharp craft knife and straight edge. Run a seam roller gently along each join. Leave to dry for 24 hours - keep the room ventilated but avoid draughts.
Covers: Eco Peel & Stick and Comfort Peel & Stick.
Eco Peel & Stick uses a removable adhesive built for smooth surfaces only, designed to come away cleanly within 1-2 years. Comfort Peel & Stick uses a very strong adhesive that is not designed to be removed. It also copes with lightly textured walls, for a long-lasting hold.
What you'll needPeel & stick is the easiest to install. Eco Peel & Stick is also easy to remove; Comfort Peel & Stick has a much stronger, long-lasting hold.
Essential for straight vertical lines
Smooth out bubbles as you apply
Trim to size cleanly
Mark your guide lines lightly
The wall must be clean, dry, and smooth. Wipe with a damp cloth and allow to dry fully. Peel & stick won't adhere well to dusty, greasy, or textured surfaces. Freshly painted walls should cure for at least 4 weeks before application.
Modern "washable", "scrubbable", or zero-VOC paints can resist adhesion. If your walls have this kind of finish, stick a small offcut to the wall for 24 hours first to check it holds before committing to a full panel.
Before you start, unroll all your panels and check them in order - if you spot a print flaw, contact us before hanging it. Let the panels acclimatise in the room for 24 hours first.
Use a spirit level to draw a light pencil line where the first panel edge will go. This is your guide - peel & stick is repositionable, so you can adjust before pressing firmly, but starting straight saves time.
Peel back the top 20-30 cm of the backing paper. Do not remove it all at once. Align the top corner with your vertical line and the ceiling, then press gently into place. Peel and smooth downward in sections, using a squeegee to eliminate bubbles as you go. Always apply dry - never wet the wall or the panel first.
If you see a bubble, lift the panel back to that point and re-smooth - peel & stick allows repositioning before final press. If a bubble appears after the final press, gently pierce it with a pin and smooth flat.
Hang panels in numbered order, butting each edge tight against the previous panel and never overlapping. The design matches automatically when panels are hung in sequence.
Trim any excess at the ceiling and skirting with sharp scissors or a craft knife. Once you're happy with the position, go over the entire surface firmly with your squeegee - especially along edges and seams - to ensure full adhesion.
Bare or freshly skimmed plaster absorbs paste instantly, preventing the paper from bonding properly. Always prime or size the wall first.
Walls and corners are almost never perfectly straight. Always use a spirit level - even a small lean will compound across multiple panels.
Wipe any paste off the front of the wallpaper immediately with a clean damp sponge. Dried paste can cause staining or affect the finish.
Only paste the section of wall you're about to cover. Paste dries out - working in sections keeps everything workable.
Step back after every panel to check the design alignment at eye level before moving on. It's much easier to adjust now than later.
Good airflow speeds drying and prevents the paper from lifting at the edges. Open a window - just avoid direct draughts across wet panels.
If a pattern doesn't line up, never pull the wallpaper to make it fit - it causes stretching and distortion.
Ceilings and floors are rarely perfectly parallel, so measure and cut each panel for the actual wall height rather than assuming it is the same everywhere.
Work with a second person on large mural panels so the sheet doesn't fold onto itself.
